I first started collecting PEZ dispensers in the early 00’s. I was a fan of Less Than Jake, whose members Roger and Vinnie collect PEZ dispensers and the band have named albums after PEZ, and PEZ dispensers often feature on their merchandise. I found a couple that I’d had when I was younger, then saw some in a shop one day and bought them.
Before I knew it I had a collection. Back then, it was easy to display and keep track of my collection. I used to reorganise them into sets or put them in the order of the colours in the visible spectrum, or alphabetical order, or whatever I felt like, all the time. Once my collection grew to over a few hundred they became a bit harder to display; apart from a select few, they mostly spend their days in shoeboxes under my bed. Another problem I often had was people telling me they’d seen some PEZ dispensers somewhere but hadn’t bought them for me incase I already had them. Sometimes they’d ask me, but even I’d have a hard time remembering exactly which Hello Kitty dispenser I was missing, or what colour stem my Shrek dispenser had, or whether it was the European or US Tinkerbell that I was missing.
Thus the concept of EdsPEZLog was born. It provides me with a method of displaying my collection to a much larger audience and doesn’t take up a lot of room. Plus I can quickly search whilst hunting for PEZ dispensers to make sure I don’t miss out on ones I don’t have or buy a load of ones I already do.
So I got photographer Clare Trotter around and we set up a PEZ sized studio. Actually she had to come back because in the space of a couple of months I went a bit wild and bought a load more. All of the studio set up shots were taken by her. At the time of writing there’s only one photo not taken by her and that was clearly taken with my phone.
I hope you enjoy looking at my collection even a fraction of how much I enjoy collecting them! Please get in contact if you want, especially if you’re another collector. I’ve got lists of the extra PEZ dispensers I have and also the ones I’m after, so take a look at them too.
